The Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital receives prestigious verification from American Burn Association

Monday, October 6, 2025

BRIDGEPORT, CT (October 6, 2025) The Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital has been verified by the American Burn Association (ABA), a prestigious distinction that recognizes burn centers that meet the highest standards of care for burn-injured patients from admission through rehabilitation. Bridgeport Hospital’s Burn Center is the only Burn Center in Connecticut and one of only 80 ABA verified burn centers in the United States.

Verification by the ABA is a vigorous process that evaluates a burn center’s organizational structure, personnel qualifications, resources and medical care services. Verification is granted only to programs that meet rigorous criteria to ensure patients receive exceptional, multi-disciplinary care from injury through recovery. It includes a site visit by a team of experienced burn care professionals and a detailed review of protocols and patient outcomes.

“This verification confirms what we strive for every day – providing the safest, most comprehensive care for our burn patients,” said Alisa Savetamal, MD, director of The Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital. “It is a reflection of the dedication, skill and compassion our burn team brings to each patient and family we serve.”

The Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital admits more than 220 patients each year and conducts more than 1,100 outpatient visits.

“This national recognition speaks to the extraordinary caliber of our team and our mission to deliver world-class care to the entire state and southern New England,” said Anne Diamond, DBA, JD, president of Bridgeport Hospital. “We are proud to be among the select burn centers in the country to receive this honor and even more proud of the difference our staff makes every day in the lives of our patients.”

Bridgeport Hospital, part of Yale New Haven Health, is a non-profit 501-bed acute care hospital with two campuses (plus 42 beds licensed to Yale New Haven Children's Hospital). Its Bridgeport and Milford Campuses serve patients from across the region. The hospital admits more than 23,000 patients and provides nearly 350,000 outpatient treatments annually. The Connecticut Burn Center at Bridgeport Hospital is the only burn center in the state and one of only 64 verified burn centers in the United States. Bridgeport Hospital is committed to providing safe, compassionate and cost efficient care to its patients and the community. www.bridgeporthospital.org
