The Birthplace was designed by obstetricians - and by you. We asked women what they wanted, and we learned that you prefer to labor, deliver, and recover in one room. But, once the delivery is over and you're holding your brand new baby in your arms, you want a fresh, quiet room where your family can visit, separate from the delivery area. So we created birthing rooms and postpartum rooms - on the same floor, but very separate, for your comfort.
Each birthing room has a private shower, with Corian countertops and ceramic tile. Two rooms even have Jacuzzis, which can provide soothing relief in the early stages of labor.
For a change of scenery during labor, you can walk down the hall to the comfortable living-room atmosphere of the Labor Lounge.
Postpartum rooms feature the same soothing colors, and also have generous bathrooms with large showers.
Ultrasound Doctors from across the region send their high-risk maternity patients to The Birthplace at Bridgeport Hospital to ensure that Mom and Baby receive the finest care.

Reserved parking spaces for a Mom in labor are directly outside the Emergency Department (ED) entrance on Mill Hill Avenue. They are available from 8 pm - 7 am weekdays and any other time on weekends. ED staff will escort Mom to the Labor & Delivery suite on the fifth floor.
Parking is available in the hospital's Agnes and Ernie Kaulbach Parking Pavilion, across from the hospital's main entrance.
